The Steamboat Is The Highlight Of The Cautious Reopening Of Lake George

Lake George Steamboat Company has a schedule of many cruises that you can sign up for safely. These cruises are a great way to take in summer. The views of the mountains and water and only a few hours long, is a perfect way to get a feel of the outdoors after all this enforced indoor time .

The restarting of the steamboat cruises appears to be the highlight of the Lake George area, which has long been a tourist magnet especially in summer.

But even as the area expects several tourists, visitors are well advised to take note of the safety requirements as part of their travel plans, as Lake George’s reopening focus is one of safety. Regulars may not recognize the area for its restrictions.

While some outdoor activities are back, amusement parks and several indoor attractions are still closed. Restaurants and bars only allow half their capacity to be filled at a time. Large events have been canceled or postponed and many restaurants only offer outdoor seating.

Per a recent travel advisory, visitors from Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah will need to remain under quarantine for 14 days

If you choose to visit Lake George, it is imperative that you adhere to all social distancing guidelines in order to limit the spread of COVID-19. This includes wearing a mask when indoors and when you cannot maintain six-feet separation from other parties, even when outside.

The Lake George Steamboat too has its strict rules for safety. The cruises will run at 50% capacity to ensure social distancing. Masks are required for anyone over the age of two. Though you will not be required to wear them in the dining room.

The Lake George area officials suggest that everyone carries a mask around at all times and uses it wherever needed, especially when social distancing is not feasible and if local businesses mandate the wearing of one.

In general, these are guidelines for how to “do” Lake George in this time and remember that the 50% maximum capacity rule applies to every public place such as shops,  including the beaches, including the famous Million Dollar Beach. So visitors’ must have back up plans in case they cannot get in and have to be turned away.

That said, according to their information, Lake George is still good for these activities:

Hiking and walking, biking, parks, tennis, golf courses, rowboats, kayaks, motorboat rentals, horseback riding, tree-top adventure courses, shopping and of course, boat cruises.
