Plattekill boasts big mountain terrain and friendly, family-oriented small mountain charm. Choose from 38 trails, 4 lifts and 1,100 feet of vertical, you’ll find 2-mile long beginner cruiser trails and some of the steepest double-black diamonds around. With all new ski and snowboard rentals, the mountain also offers snow tubing, family friendly year-long events and a variety of other winter activities.
Also in the area is Belleayre Mountain with over 50 trails, parks and glades, a vertical drop of 1,404 feet, 8 lifts and 4 lodges. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you will find something to enjoy.
Each year on the first Saturday of February, Hanford Mills Museum (http://www.hanfordmills.org) celebrates the rural tradition of the Ice Harvest Festival. Using historic tools and techniques, visitors can cut and maneuver blocks of ice from the Mill Pond, and then transport the blocks to the ice house by sled. The Ice Harvest Festival also features ice sculpting and ice fishing, a hot soup buffet, bonfires, and exhibits by local farmers and businesses. The 2021 event is currently scheduled for Saturday, February 6th, so mark your calendars to join the fun at the next Ice Harvest Festival at Hanford Mills in East Meredith.
