Seven weeks of opera, music, theatre, dance, film, cabaret, and a Spiegeltent are all at Bard College this summer. Bard Summerscape presents an arts festival from June 28 to August 19. For the fifteenth year in a row Bard Summerscape is held at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College. Tickets start at $25 per event.
Theatre at Bard Summerscape
The theater department kicks off Bard Summerscape on June 28 with a re-imagined production of Peter Pan. Director Christopher Alden rediscovers songs composed by the legendary Leonard Bernstein for a 1950s production. The result is a darker Peter Pan than that of your childhood. The curtain drops on June 28 at 7 p.m, and closes for the last time on July 22.
Bard Summerscape Cabaret
The magical and alluring chaos of the Spiegeltent returns on June 29. The dazzling tent of mirrors hosts a culmination of food, dancing, jazz, and cabaret performances. Hosted by Tony Award winner Mx. Justin Vivian Bond, cabaret under the Spiegeltent presents American classics of the genre. The Hot Age Jazz series takes audience members through the history of jazz, from its roots in New Orleans to Harlem, Chicago, and beyond. Special events teach patrons how to swing dance, explore true stories of the Hudson Valley, and experience brand-new artists.
Dance at Bard Summerscape
In an ambitious must-see combination, renowned painters, musicians, and dancers will honor T.S. Elliot’s masterpiece Four Quartets. The cross-medium performance will feature Elliot’s works in an inspired and exciting performance for three nights: July 6, 7, and 8.
Opera Performances at Bard Summerscape
The despair and suffering of eternal damnation comprise the opera of Demon. The popular but rare-in-the-West Russian opera is performed by an all-Russian cast. The American Symphony Orchestra brings the pain of a fallen angel to life starting on July 27 at 8 p.m. and running through August 5.
