Earth Day Union Square
Celebrate earth day with hundreds of thousands of people in New York City! Since 1970, NYC’s Earth Day celebration has been held in Union Square. Peruse various Earth Day Initiatives and other events, like concerts, educational forums, 5k walk, and exhibitions. Over 70 exhibitors will be at the Earth Day Initiative including environmental non-profits, green businesses, kids’ activities, and live performances. All in an attempt to increase awareness and knowledge, while decreasing environmental impact and protect the earth.
You can bring your utility bill to the booth at E. 17th and Park Ave. to switch to clean energy and also get $25 off your next bill! Brands like the local Innisfree are also getting involved, and want to see what environmental issues are on your mind with the #IGIVEASHEET campaign. This sustainable company launched 100% biodegradable masks at the start of the week, and are working to increase awareness with their efforts.
Have a great idea for making NYC more sustainable? The New School—dedicated to sustainability, social justice, and innovative design, is sponsoring a special contest. One winner will receive university resources and funding to bring their sustainability idea to life!
A highlight will be Car Free NYC on April 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be 30 blocks of car-free streets on Broadway from Times Square to Union Square. Along the walk there will be five allocated celebration stops, each stop featuring something special. Some will have fitness events, conservation activism, live performances, art, and many others for activities for people of all ages to enjoy.
