The Burning of Kingston

Ulster County | Festivals & Annual Events

In October 1777, mere months after Kingston was christened New York's first capital, British troops invaded the city and burned it to the ground. Every other year, the community commemorates this important event with The Burning of Kingston, a weekend-long celebration of the resilience and determination that ultimately rebuilt the city, featuring living history re-enactments and a variety of family friendly activities, food, art, and more.
