Hat and Headresses Around the Globe

A program on Hat and Headresses Around the Globe will be presented on May 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Geneva History Museum, 543 S. Main Street. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will also be served. The Geneva History Museum is handicapped accessible. The program is sponsored by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes. The presenter will be Helene Cincebeaux of Rochester. She will display her extraordinary array of hats and headdresses gathered in her travels around the world. She has visited 61 countries and has led 88 tours to 16 European and Asian countries. Cincebeaux is an expert on Slovak and Czech folk dress and customs and has published four books and over 50 articles. Her photos of the people of the Czech and Slovak Republics have been displayed 22 times in eight countries, including exhibits in Prague, Czech Republic; Vienna, Austria; and in castles in Parma, Italy and the Sultanate of Oman. The Baine/Cincebeaux Collection of Czech & Slovak Folk Dress & Folk Art has been shown in 25 exhibits in museums, universities and libraries in 16 states. Cincebeaux was awarded the Slovak President’s Medal of Honor in 2003 and in 1997 received a gold medal from the Slovak Republic for service in promoting Slovakia, spreading information on Slovak culture and reuniting long-lost families. She is a graduate of Syracuse University and received an Outstanding Syracuse University Alumni Award in 2000. Source & image: lifeinthefingerlakes.com
