Hunter's Education Classes

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office will host a New York Bowhunter Education Course at the Hideaway in Dayton and then later at the Perrysburg Fire Hall.

At Hideaway Archery, the course will be held on two separate dates of September 4 and 6. Participants must attend both days of instruction in that preferred week to receive a certificate. Classes on Sept. 4 and 5 will meet from 4:30-9pm. Pre registration is required by going here.

On Saturday, September 16th, the course will be from 8:00am-4:30pm at the Perrysburg Fire Hall located at 12007 Main St. Perrysburg, NY 14129. Registration for this course can be found here.

A New York Hunter Education Course will be held from 8:00am-3:00pm at the Portville Conservation Club, located at 756 Butternut Brook Rd. Portville, NY 14770 on Saturday, Septermber 16th as well. Registration for this course can be found here.

All registrants for this event must be 11 years of age by September 16, 2017. Student must be at least 11 years of age to attend the Hunter Education Course, unless he/she will, within the next year, hunt in a state that allows hunting under the age of 12 years. Those attending must bring some form of identification such as a driver's license, birth certificate, etc; and a pen or pencil. They may also bring snacks, something to drink and a packed dinner.

Hunter Education is required for all hunting licenses, including bowhunting. This course covers firearms safety, hunting techniques and responsible, ethical hunting practices.

For additional information, call the Sheriff's Office or the DEC at 716-372-0645. Course materials can be picked up at the Sheriff's Office or at Hide-away Archery prior to classes. Their is required completion of homework that needs to be done prior to attending the course.
