Muhammad Ali, LeRoy Neiman, and the Art of Boxing

Manhattan , New York City | Arts & Culture , History

Muhammad Ali, LeRoy Neiman, and the Art of Boxing is a show that captures the friendship and professional collaboration that developed between Muhammad Ali and the popular painter and illustrator LeRoy Neiman through Neiman’s depictions of some of Ali’s most glorious moments in the ring, as well as memorabilia of Ali’s and sketches drawn by the boxer himself.

In one of the greatest marriages of sports and art, the New-York Historical Society presents this exhibition of works from artist LeRoy Neiman, who befriended boxing legend Muhammad Ali in the 1960s and began capturing scenes from some of his most famous fights in portraits, sketches and watercolor paintings, along with moments from Ali’s life outside the ring. See some of Neiman’s most famous representations of Ali in action, including sketches from his “Fight of the Century” and “Thrilla in Manilla” bouts, along with some of Ali’s own artworks.
