Nature drawing is the act of going outdoors and recording one’s personal observations about nature (anything from a sweeping landscape to a tiny mushroom) though the use of drawings and notes. The end result is personal enjoyment, learning, and growth as an observer of the natural world. The goal is not making “perfect art”! Because of this, anyone can do and enjoy nature journaling, regardless of artistic skill.
It has been proven that drawing observed objects (regardless of skill) generates greater memory responses in the brain. Jennifer will speak about the ideas behind nature journaling, demonstrate how to observe natural objects, and encourage the group to do some nature journaling on the spot! If you wish to participate, please bring a sketchbook, journal, or even a lined or unlined notepad, along with your favorite drawing tool (pencil, pen, etc). If you have it, a travel paint kit (such as watercolors) is welcome but not required. Supplies will not be provided; please bring your own. No special supplies are needed beyond paper and pencil; after all, the end result is not “fine art”!
