Gina Pfleegor’s series of paintings: The (Un)Still Life Series at the Olean Public Library

The Olean Public Library and Cattaraugus County Arts Council are pleased to present Gina Pfleegor’s series of paintings, The (Un)Still Life Series, opening Saturday March 11, 2017.Don’t come to this show hungry, or you will be made all the more ravenous by how realistic these large oil paintings of fruits have been rendered. The images are deliciously alive. Pfleegor explains the exhibit title this way, “Traditional still life objects imply something stagnant and unmoving, which is why I call this body of work “The (Un)Still Life Series,” because to me it is anything but still.” Come to see for yourself how she interprets the rough exterior of a fruit contrasted with the shine of its core. All are welcome at the free opening reception for this exhibit on Saturday afternoon, March 11 from 1-3 pm. The reception is sponsored by the Friends of the Olean Public Library and is open to the public. The exhibit runs through April 21, 2017.

Gina lives in Corning, New York and has been an art teacher at Hammondsport High School since 2001. She has a degree in graphic design as well as communication from SUNY Fredonia and a masters in art education from Elmira College. Earlier in her career as an artist, Gina was a children's book illustrator with dozens of books and other educational material published by major publishing companies. In 2013, she decided to change direction by focusing her work on fine art. Gina has participated in numerous juried shows, one of which was the 2015 Southern Tier Biennial Exhibition at Olean Public Library where three of her portrait paintings were shown.

This exhibit is one of a series administered by the Olean Public Library and the Cattaraugus County Arts Council. The Olean Public Library Art Gallery is located at 134 North 2nd Street in Olean, and the hours are Mondays through Thursdays 9am to 9pm; Fridays 9am to 6pm; Saturdays 10am to 5pm; Sundays 1 to 4pm.
