Olean Theatre Workshop presents Cinderella

, New York City | Arts & Culture

The Prince is giving a ball!! Olean Theatre Workshop's Middle School Class will be presenting Cinderella on Thursday, May 12 through Sunday, May 15. Evening performances are at 7:30pm and curtain for Sunday matinee is 2:30pm. Cinderella is a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical and the only one of their many works that was composed for television. It was written in 1957 as a vehicle for Julie Andrews who had recently taken Broadway by storm in her performance in My Fair Lady. Cinderella was again staged on TV with Lesley Ann Warren as Cinderella in 1965 and lastly in 1997 with then current pop star, Brandy.  It is a musical full of the songs that only Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein could have written. The story is a familiar one to all, and with songs such as "A Lovely Night" "In My Own Little Corner", "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" "Stepsisters' Lament", "Impossible" and "The Prince is Giving a Ball", it is a musical for all times and ages. OTW's production of Cinderella will have the students doing "name roles" and on alternate performances be a part of the chorus. This way every student is given an opportunity to play a role but also to be a part of a team - the ensemble. Source and image source: http://enchantedmountains.com
