Spring Break Art Camp at Cattaraugus County Arts Council

Kids, Go on an “ArtVenture” During Spring Break!Young artists will be excited to learn new techniques and explore art in other cultures during the Cattaraugus County Arts Council’s “ArtVenture” camps April 10-14 during school spring break. Kids will explore their creativity and learn new skills in small groups with individualized attention. CCAC Education Coordinator Ardyth Van Scoy has selected several engaging new projects for the two ArtVenture Camps - New Artists, ages 4-7 and Young Artists ages 7-11. In order to have materials for everyone, all students must be signed-up beforehand, no drop-ins are allowed. Sign-up today by telephone at 716-372-7455 or online at www.myartscouncil.net. The week-long camp is $65 per child, and includes all project supplies. The classes are held at the CCAC studio, 100 West Main Street, Allegany, NY.

New artists (ages 4-7 years) can join ArtVenture Monday through Friday from 9-10am. Designed for budding artists, this week kids will get creative and experience art from different cultures, different techniques, and have a blast doing it! Kids will learn about color and patterns while doing circle art and bleeding tissue paintings. They will delve into the world of negative space painting and paper mosaics and round out the week making glue suncatchers.

The second daily ArtVenture class, starting at 10:30am and ending at 12pm Monday through Friday, is for young artists ages 7-11. Designed for these older artists, this week of classes will give the kids a little more art history and theory mixed in with engaging projects. They will study the use of negative space with watercolor paintings, try their hand at creating intricate patterns in an abstract piece and use regular magazines to create their own wildlife print. They will also get to use foil and yarn to create a one-of-a-kind work of metallic art and finish the week by creating their own set of Chinese lanterns.

ArtVenture classes will be taught by Ardyth VanScoy, a Fine Arts graduate of St. Bonaventure. Ms. Van Scoy is also active in local theater groups both onstage as a performer and off stage creating scenery and costumes.
