Step Back in Time Weekend: Blacksmithing

Turn on the heat during Blacksmithing Weekend, where it is all about the forge! Hear the bellows blow and watch hot iron worked by hammer in the 1827 Field Blacksmith Shop on Saturday and Sunday, October 21–22. Watch our team of blacksmiths collaborate on a masterpiece project, and guest smiths demonstrate traditional tool and hardware making. On Saturday they will be working on a 16th-century English wheelock pistol, and on Sunday they will be working on a goosewing axe.

Re-visit past years' projects and learn about the skills, the craft, and the cultural and historical significance of a 19th century blacksmith. Families, scout groups, amateur blacksmiths, and anyone interested in seeing traditional craftspeople at work are invited to enjoy a day with us at the museum. Activities throughout the historic village and farmstead will captivate everyone.

During Blacksmith Weekend, life in 1845 continues throughout the museum's historic village and farmstead. Don't miss the Empire State Carousel, the museum you can ride, and the Children's Barnyard with its sheep, goats, and other animals.

Included with regular museum admission. Adults (13-64): $12.00; seniors (65+): $10.50; youth (7-12): $6.00; children (6 and under): Free. NYSHA members are always admitted free, as are active-duty and retired career military.
