Participants and their rides will be in the running for several awards of various prestige, from the weekend’s coveted Winfield Award (worth $10,000) to the Designer’s Dozen, a special prize handed out by celebrity guest judges. Ralph Holguin, host of RMD Garage, Brett “Big Schwag” Wagner from shows like Sons of Anarchy, and actress Candy Clark from the film American Graffiti will interact with visitors. Proud car owners can register for the show online before the festivities commence.
Featured Events In addition to the plethora of vintage cars, the Syracuse Nationals offer special events and activities. 100-year-old carnival staple “the Wall of Death” allows spectators to watch motorcycles whip around a motordrome, a wooden silo with a vertical race track. Auctions will be held at “Artie’s Party” and “Gasoline Alley”, where all proceeds will go toward local Ronald McDonald House charities. There is even a miniature version of the Nationals, with hundreds of mini classic cars.
The “Ol’ Skool Roundup” features live performances on portable stages from DJs, Elvis impersonators, and rock bands, as well as an old-timey “Pinup Girl” contest. After dark, gather under the Midway tent for country and rock concerts every night.
Nationals kick off Thursday, July 19th at 8 a.m. and will close on Sunday, July 22nd at 3 p.m. Visitors to Syracuse can choose to either stay in one of several nearby hotel accommodations promoted by the Nationals or to spend the weekend camping at the Burdick’s RV Center Campgrounds.
