Upcycling Jewelry: Make Your Own Gifts

, New York City | Arts & Culture

Say “goodbye” to your unwanted baubles and “hello” to creative, handmade presents as you make your own gifts. Alyson Jon, the founder and creative director of the eponymous Alyson Jon Life DIY crafts company, will host a special workshop, Upcycling Jewelry: Make Your Own Damn Gifts, at the Made in Queens store on Thursday, November 3, at 6 pm. Participants will learn techniques such as knotting, pendant-making, and jump ring usage to convert frog-like unwanted brooches and earrings into princess-worthy necklaces and chokers. An apparel designer in the Garment District for many years, Alyson currently aims to inspire others to embrace their personal style. In her classes, she teaches design rules that she learned at Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. The workshop’s price is $30 per person, and materials will be provided. Of course, participants are encouraged to bring their own discarded items. Located at 27-24 Queens Plaza South in Long Island City, Made in Queens is a pop-up store that offers locally made artisanal products, crafts, design goods, home accessories, and food products. Its goal is to help borough-based makers grow and flourish. Register for event here. Source & image: itsinqueens.com
